Three times as many women as men have migraines. More than 80% of people with migraines (called migraineurs ) have other members in the family who have them too. Interestingly however, only one out of four studies included in a recent review concluded that individually prescribed homeopathic remedies significantly reduces the frequency, severity, and duration of migraine symptoms. Some of these effective remedies are listed below. Migraine victims alone lose over 157 million workdays because of headache pain.
Unlike migraine, the pain does not increase when you are exercising. Prescription medications for migraines are generally not considered safe for use in pregnant women. Epidemiological, pathophysiological, and clinical evidence link estrogen to migraine headaches. Triptans appear to provide acute relief and also may be useful for headache prevention.

My dad is having severe headaches and has been told they are cluster migraines. Since fall is on its way these headaches are getting worse and sometimes lasting all night. They will stop for 30 minutes or so and then restart severely. I am a nurse and work in a physician’s office and havent seen much on this but reading on the internet I see where Verapamil is used for treatment. I just wonder since this affects the trigeminal nerve if Neurontin or Lyrica would work? My dad is on his way to the ER now with one of these severe headaches. He is the type that will never go to the doctor so if he is going to the ER I know he is in severe pain.

Has anyone tried taking ginger for migraine headaches? Did it help? If so, how much did you take and was it at the onset of a headache or daily for prevention? Thank You!

My neurologist just started me on Topamax last night because I get constant headaches and migraines. I am taking 1/2 of a 25 mg pill for a week at night, then up the dose from there. He wants me to go up on it slowly so it builds up in my system and hopefully starts to work in a month or so.
I am curious if anyone who has taken this med experienced very many of the many side effects that are possible with this med? Some of them do scare me, especially two of them (glaucoma and slow thinking/memory/speech). Is this medicine worth taking considering all the side effects that are possible? Did anyone lose weight while using it (my doctor said it is a good possibility and I know I could definitely stand to lose some weight)? Does this med make you really drowsy, especially when you first start it in the morning (I took it at night to start and already take Trazodone for sleeping so I can’t tell if this one makes me sleep)? In other words, what has been your experience using this drug?

Is there any sort of migraine headache treatment that works? I mean I’ve had migraines for pretty much my whole adult life.

Last Friday I started getting a sore throat, and by Saturday I realized I had a small cold. Just a sore throat and cough with the gross phlegm.
By Monday morning I was mostly better, but at night I started getting a headache above my left eyebrow, and whenever I leaned forward it made it worst.
I thought it was another symptom of my cold, but tuesday morning it was gone.
Around 7 that night it came back, worst than the day before.

Doctors are advising adding 1 glass of red wine or concord grape juice a day for health benefits. I can’t drink the red wine and am hoping I can drink the grape juice.

I have always had “headaches”. I used to take daily B.C. powders to prevent a headache. I have been on multiple maintenance drugs and painkillers for migraines none of which have helped. While I was pregnant I only had a few migraines. I nursed my son for 11 months and somewhere around 5-6 months after his birth I started to get these migraines again. They have changed in intensity from before his birth. This weekly thing has been occuring for the past 6-7 months. I’m a stay at home mom with a one year old. These headaches are taking over my life. I wake up every day and think “do I feel a headache coming on”? Tomorrow is my “scheduled” headache day. If anyone can offer me any new information I would be very greatful.

I have a low grade migraine headache almost daily with a severe one about once a week. I have difficulty with prescription medications. Do you know of any good herbal remedies or natural cures? I’ve tried Feverfew, Peppermint oil, Melatonin and different “Herbal migraine remedy” pills. Any other suggestions?
Thanks for all the answers so far….I do have food triggers that I can avoid….and MSG is one of them. The problem triggers that I can’t avoid are hormonal changes, weather changes and odors (perfume, air fresheners, lysol etc). I need help for the things that are not under my control.
Oh… and I saw a chiroprctor for 6 months last year doing the 3x per week then 2x then one etc. It didn’t help. He was convinced that he could help me but when it didn’t he did some body kinesiolgy tests with different foods and determined it was food related and out of his ability to help me.

Most women would agree that pregnancy is a very special time in their lives and an amazing experience but they would also be quick to note it is also can be a time of great adjustment and potential discomfort also . The rose coloured glasses soon slip as the reality of morning sickness, extreme tiredness, heart burn, back/hip pain – to name but a few general pregnancy related ailments – kick in.
As the new mother-to-be embarks on this wonderful rollercoaster ride of emotional and physical challenges and begins to dream of the little babe she will soon hold in her arms there is one more frustrating challenge she is likely to experience.
