Question by True dat: What’s a good age to allow a child to take medication on their own.?
Example, an inhaler for asthma. And for example if your child has a headache while in school and you know you have provided your child the exact mat dosage for them to keep in their pants pocket in case he needs it while at school, instead of running to the school nurse and waiting for his turn to see the s hool nurse also the nurse would have to ask a zillion questions, call me, etc. My child has migraine headaches and the doc said to take motrin asap or it won’t work, so if my child run to the nurse that would probably take 20 minutes therefore the motrin won’t work for him. He s 10 years old.

Question by Sophie: Best over-the-counter headache & migraine medication?
I suffer from chronic headaches and migraines. I’ve seen many doctors, who have simply told me “just take Advil”. Well, four Advil at one time (the recommended dosage is 2 every two hours) is no longer helping.

What are the best OTC migraine pills?

How Does Alcohol Affect Pain Medication?

I took a Mersyndol tablet last night and had already had 3 glasses of wine when I realised it said on the label that alcohol usage may affect the medication.
Just curious what they mean by that….does that mean the alcohol would make me feel even groggier (mersyndol has about 50mg of codeine plus some sort of tranq like ingrediant so it is designed to knock you out so to speak) or does that mean that the alcohol cancels the tablet out alltogether and makes them not work.

Don’t worry I was taking it for a migraine headache last night, I am not abusing these drugs. My other half uses them for back pain and I have taken these in the past for my migraines….just want to make sure I am taking these properly.

I have been on Levoxyl for months to treat a goiter problem. I am on numerous medications for my migraines but I’m still getting them. My neurologist mailed me script for a new medication, amitriptyline (Elavil), as another preventative to take and I had this feeling to check for any interactions and all the websites I’ve found said they shouldn’t be taken together. Nowhere does it say why and what will happen though. I see my endocrinologist Monday for a check-up and will definitely ask her what to do. I thought my neurologist would have checked my file to see what other meds I take but apparently not.

Does anyone know the side effects of them taken together and what else I can take on top of Neurontin, Naproxen, and Imitrex to fight my headaches?
I do not have depression but 99% of migraine meds are also antidepressants.

Ive had a headache now for A WEEK. its at the top of my head, it feels tight, there have been periods when it has been stabbing behind my eye. i do get the once a month period migraine that no pill can take away. i also have terrible vertigo with this headache. i close my eyes my head spins, watching tv, head spins. its very disconcerting. i dont believe i have an ear infection.

i think its medication related, i take tramadol 25mg most days to combat the pain of bursitis and also 2.5mg of sleeping tablets to help me sleep on most nights. this last few days i am desperate and have tried alternating between paracetamol / ibuprofen with low dose of codeine to combat this headache. NOTHING works.

my son is in the 5th grade, he suffers from migraine headaches, sinusitis, and he has been struggling in school, his grades has decline very bad; his teacher claims that his never paying attention and that he is easily destructive, playing with pencils or anything around him. I feel helpless, How can i help him? Does he needs medication?

For the past 10 years or so I’ve suffered with migraine headaches but over the last year or so they have been getting worse both in pain and frequency and this is after I have already eliminated as many “triggers” as I can think of. Now for the past few months I’ve been going back and forward to the doctor, over the years I’ve tried several preventative and abortive medications and after a week or so they stop working. My doctor advised me that she’ll now be referring me onto a specialist at the hospital who will be able to prescribe me anti epileptic meds as a treatment as they have been know to be an effective preventative.

What I’d like to know is what are the side effects (long and short term) associated with these types of medication? How effective are they in preventing migraine? And if these don’t work what would the next step be?
I should probably mention I’m in the UK and there are fewer medications for migraine available here – something to do with our health boards guildlines
would also like to request genuine links to websites and not for online perscription shopping, thnx
