Several people nowadays are suffering from migraine headache and constantly look for migraine headache relief. This condition affects people’s lifestyle, activities and work. I have prepared some notes to remember about the migraine symptoms and some common relief that can be used.

The migraine headache is due to the enlargement of the brain’s blood vessels and surrounding fibers. During the onset of the migraine, the temporal artery enlarges which affects the nerves and triggers the release of some chemicals. These chemicals being released causes inflammation and severity of the pain. With this said pain, people have become desperate in their need of relief. Here are the symptoms of the migraine headache.

For the past 4 days, I have had some strange headaches that only occur when I make certain movements. For instance, when I bend over I’m fine, but once leaning my head back up I have sharp and throbbing pains on the right side of my head. Also if I make sudden head movements, or get too strained (too much physical activity that causes me to get worked up) my head pounds. I have had headaches for years but this is new to me. I was not able to do laundry or dry my hair this morning. Can anyone relate to this at all? I’m seeing doctor today but I would love to know if anyone else has had these symptoms. Thanks so much.

Cluster Headache Questions?

A little over 3 years ago I suffered from cluster headaches for a couple months. I remember screaming and crying.. I am a grown man but I couldn’t help but do it. I was given many drugs that didnt work like migraine type medicines and would take massive amounts of tylenol and Advil to stop the pain… which didn’t work. Eventually I took klonipin which did seem to really help my problems. I am now on lexapro and haven’t taken klonipin for a couple years. I hear that cluster headaches come and go for people… some don’t get it for years then suddenly get it again… what are my chances because after seeing a Newsweek video on cluster headaches my fear of them has come back. It literately kept me from living life at the time. I was very close to suicide.

Clinical correspondence in the latest Cephalalgia journal reports the presence of ‘cutaneous allodynia’ in two cluster headache patients.

What is cutaneous allodynia? Cutaneous (relating to or affecting the skin) allodynia (is a painful response to a normally non painful stimulus) so in this case there is a heightened, painful sensitivity to touch. This increased sensitivity to touch, along with other symptoms for e.g. photo-phobia (heightened sensitivity to light) and phono-phobia (heightened sensitivity to sound) is a sign of sensitisation of the brainstem.

Research shows quite clearly that the brainstems of migraineurs and tension headache sufferers are also sensitised …. and what do the ‘triptans’ do? they desensitise the brainstem and that is why they are effective in alleviating the pain in migraine, tension and cluster headache – all three headaches originate from the same condition i.e. a sensitised brainstem.
