Question by *Sawyer’s Mommy*: Getting rid of headaches and migraines during pregnancy?
I’m 20 weeks and my migraines just started happening. Most of them are due to my back and neck hurting but sometimes they hurt so bad that they make me sick.

I’m allowed tylenol but it’s honestly not strong enough for me.

Anyone have any tips that helped your headaches during pregnancy?

thanks!

Best answer:

Answer by Mama to maddy and preggers with 2nd baby!
i was put on fiorecet by my obgyn i had horrible migraines , and was given that its an extra strength tylenol/caffeine /something else cant remeber , but its specifiically for migraines , and oh my gosh they are awesome , i had migraines bad in my first pregnancy , ask your obgyn about it , they are for pregnant women to take so its safe , and its safe otherwise my ob would not have prescribed it to me .
I am pregnant again 4 weeks , and hoping i dont get them this time but if i do i know what to use , for relief . Good luck and call your obgyn or a nurse there .

Also i took them all the way to the end when needed and i had a healthy 6 pound 3oz 18/3/4 inch baby girl and she is 6 months and doing fine .Im pregnant with our second now and will take them again if needed .

Article by Chani Prem T

Intense headaches, followed by nausea and vomiting and sensitivity to light are the most common symptoms of migraine headaches. Migraine headaches are caused by the enlargement of blood vessels in the brain. The enlarging of the blood vessels causes the nerves to stretch and release a chemical. The chemicals released causes pain that is associated with migraine headaches. The chemicals also, stretch the arteries further, thereby, further increasing the pain. Migraine headaches can greatly interfere with day to day activities of those suffering from this condition. Therefore, medication is often relied upon to reduce or relieve the pain associated with bouts of headaches. Relpax or its generic form Eletriptan is a Canada Pharmacy prescription medication for migraine headache attacks that has proven efficacy in treating this condition. It can be purchased at Big Mountain Pharmacy that offers deeply discounted prices and reliable delivery across the world.

Symptoms of Migraine Headaches

Migraine is a chronic condition that can begin as early as childhood. Headaches are the most common symptom of migraine. Intense throbbing at the temples is the first indication of an onset of a migraine attack. This can travel to the back of the head, forehead or around the eyes. Most often the pain is restricted to one side of the head. However, some sufferers may feel pain on both sides of the head. Associated symptoms of migraine headaches include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, cold hands and feet, blurred vision, light-headedness etc. An aura is another common symptom of migraine headaches. However, some may experience migraine headaches without auras. Patients who experience auras may see flashes of light, bright spots and various shapes emanating from their head.

Diagnosing Migraine Headaches

Most migraine headaches are treated with home remedies and ignored once the symptoms have cleared. However, if migraine attacks occur regularly, it is advised to seek medical attention. Migraine headaches are often the underlying cause of a more serious medical condition. This will include brain tumours, elevated eye pressure etc. A doctor may prescribe medication to alleviate pain with migraine. Relpax is a prescription medication that acts by narrowing the blood vessels in the brain. This medication also helps to reduce migraine symptoms. Users should keep in mind; this medication is not for the prevention of headaches associated with migraines, but to reduce the severity of the migraine symptoms.

Taking the Medication

The dosage of this medication depends on the health care provider’s advice. The dosage will depend on how the patient responds to it, the severity of the condition and other medications being taken at the time, possibly for other medical conditions. What is important is that patients adhere to the proper medial prescriptions, so that the desired relief can be experienced. The medication is available in 20mg and 40mg strengths at any pharmacy. Medication should not exceed 40mg for a day. Therefore, sufferers are advised to refrain from increasing the dosage, thinking that it will provide better relief. For best results, the medication should be taken at the onset stage itself when mild symptoms can be observed. It is important that no medication is taken without a doctor’s prescription. The medicine can be purchased at a fraction of the cost of high street pharmacy prices by logging on to Big Mountain Drugs online pharmacy and presenting a valid prescription.

Side Effects of Eletriptan

Side effects are common to most medications. However, not all individuals prescribed with Eletriptan will experience side effects. It is necessary, however, to be aware of the side effects in case they occur. Common side effects of this medication include nausea, dizziness, weakness and drowsiness. Severe side effects such as chest pain, high blood pressure, fainting, vision changes, numbness etc should be attended to by a doctor immediately.

Migraine headaches will cause intense discomfort and inconvenience to its sufferers. By taking Relpax, patients can conduct day to day activities with very little interference from this condition which has no known cause.

There are various types of migraine headaches, with the common and classic ones as examples. One specifically uncommon sort of migraine is the hemiplegic migraine.

Hemiplegic migraines are migraine headaches with very special indications. They include:* A rapid attack unilateral (one-sided) feebleness and/or paralysis, commonly in the aura point of migraine.* The debility mostly involves a migraineur’s face, arm, and leg.* When the right side of the body is the affected side, the migraineur may be language impaired. * A weak head trauma can produce a hemiplegic migraine. * A migraine headache develops after the paralysis.* The paralysis lasts from an hour to days, but commonly clears up within 24 hours. * Giddiness, vertigo, double vision, and inconvenience in walking or balancing may all be part of a hemiplegic migraine.

Hemiplegic migraines are mainly genetic and sufferers customarily have at least one first or second-degree relative (parent, sibling, aunt, uncle, first cousin) who also bears from hemiplegic migraines.Since countless hemiplegic migraines are brought on by mild head trauma, people with an inclination for this kind of migraine are warned to pass up on contact sports. In families where the condition is common, onset mostly takes place in childhood, so the no-contact rule is exceptionally crucial for children in hemiplegic prone families.

A lot of heritable markers have been established for hemiplegic migraine specifically. It is not a circumstance that screening is generally offered for, but screening is accessible upon request. This type of migraine is exceptionally worrying because its warning signs so closely bear a resemblance to a stroke.

Fortunately, the stroke-like effects commonly reverse completely within 24 hours. They are also difficult because hemiplegic migraines do not respond to most migraine prescribed drugs and frequently have to be treated more reminiscent of epilepsy with more unsafe drugs than regular migraineurs take.

Article by Argelia Evans

Headaches may be terribly agonizing, and it is something many of us have had the misfortune to endure. If it comes to pain, the widespread, ordinary headache won’t even begin to compare to migraine headaches. I had a period when very much younger, and I used to have migraines about once a month. They lasted a couple of years and then eventually stopped, and I am thrilled for that. There’s much to be learned about migraines because they are not understood by researchers. There are many reasons for this not the very least of which is people can respond to and feel pain in distinct ways. This is a tremendously intricate area, and this indicates doctors have a long way to search before a clear picture emerges.

Nonetheless, just like with many topics in medicine, a lot is known about migraine headaches. For starters, migraines are sometimes termed, vascular headaches, which refers to the vascular system of blood veins as well as arteries. Apparently either very low as well as high temperatures may induce a migraine event. Deprivation of sleep or becoming extremely hungry can bring one of these painful headaches to the forefront. Just like with so many other medical issues, there are certain triggers that apparently influence this condition. Another cause for a migraine can be substantial and chronic amounts of stress.

Pertaining to the extreme pain, migraines are unique because the pain seems to take more time to build up. Naturally that can lead them to examine certain areas which could be fruitful. It appears that the present-day situation is that doctors have a lot of data from which they can try to work with. Over fifty percent of people who get migraines seem to have close relatives who also have this trouble which suggests a possible genetic influence. However, genetics is not associated with everybody, and so that is another facet that has to be looked at.

Women can be susceptible to migraines because of hormone fluctuations. The normal menstrual cycle can frequently cause a migraine either preceeding or following the cycle. It is known that estrogen decreases quite a bit during those periods of time. Pregnancy and then the menopausal years are also times of wild alterations in hormones. As you might be thinking, you can find some who have higher occurence of migraines at those times. The intensity of a migraine can be made worse for some if they undertake replacement therapy for hormones. Conversely, all of those experiences do not materialize to all women who are afflicted by migraines.

There is certainly a wide variety of migraine inducers like music that is too loud, or overly bright lights, and even typical odors from chemicals and other day-to-day smells. It is apparent that the variety of migraine triggers is highly different. Still there are physical causes with some people for example rigorous physical exertion of pretty much any kind. All of that helps make unraveling the secret of migraines a lot more difficult.

In fact, they can frequently be more useful than painkillers and without the danger of serious unwanted upshots.

Biofeedback therapy:

Biofeedback training has shown positive outcomes in terms of stopping migraine headache pain. It is not really deemed a therapy, but a guidance course that will teach a person how to control certain body functions which are typically controlled unconsciously by the human body. Learning biofeedback training can permit an individual to control body functions like blood pressure and body temperature. As soon as biofeedback therapy is learned it can be utilized to decrease or eliminate migraine headaches.

Habitual Exercise:

Regular exercise can also be an enormous help for migraine sufferers. This includes both aerobic exercise such as jogging and weightlifting workouts that can build and preserve muscle tone. Nonetheless, bear in mind that once a migraine attack occurs, strenuous exercise or other similar activities can increase the symptoms. Do not exercise when you are suffering with a migraine headache.

Chiropractic Care:

Chiropractic manipulations have been helping migraine headache sufferers for more than one hundred years. Studies have persistently revealed chiropractic manipulations to be extremely useful for relieving migraine headaches. Some research has shown helpful results in excess of 80% of sufferers. Moreover, chiropractic manipulations are very safe. You’ll often hear people declare that chiropractic treatment is harmful, but severe problems are extraordinarily uncommon as a result of chiropractic care. You will have a better chance of getting struck by lighting than bearing severe problem due to a chiropractic manipulation.

Decrease Your Salt Consumption:

If you are a migraine sufferer that likes to salt their cuisine you may want to get out of the addiction. Lots of folks add salt to almost everything they consume. It can add a whole lot of flavor to your meals, but it can also trigger migraine headache pain.

Drink Lots of Water Every Day:

Dehydration can happen fast in a migraine sufferer. Many times it only requires three hours with no water to bring on a headache. Migraineurs should generally eat smaller meals more often as an alternative to larger meals infrequently. Plus, they need to be consuming enough water every day. Lots of beverages like soft drinks and high energy drinks can in reality drain your body of water. Try drinking water and avoid other types of drinks.

Pain signals from the meninges or nociceptors travel along the upper branch of the trigeminal nerves. Activation of the trigeminal vascular system and secretion of neuropeptides are hypothesized to be central events in the pathogenesis of migraine. Tactile sensitivity competes nociceptive signals. Tactile sensitive signals travelling along the upper branch of the trigeminal nerve counteract pain signals from the meninges or nociceptors. See more at www.cefaly.com

The Diet and Migraine Connection

From a scientific standpoint, the correlation between one’s diet and migraines has yet to be established, though there is one. Sadly, the food triggers are unique for each migraine sufferer – it’s not akin to someone who needs to lessen their cholesterol and the expert tells them to gobble egg whites and get away from the bacon, migraineurs have to ascertain their triggers on their own. The best approach to do this is with an elimination diet.

The primary stage in any elimination diet is to draw up a list of potential triggers. A migraineur has experienced a headache the day after every football merrymaking for years. What was given out? Who hosted? What items were common from party to party? If it doesn’t transpire every time, what was unusual? Did someone else make the potato salad this week? Record the suspects and jump to step two.

This is the most difficult step in an elimination diet. Until a suspect is spotted, everything from the meal that seems to trigger a headache must be eliminated. Then the dieter can add items back into their life, one at a time, until they identify a trigger. Once the trigger is diagnosed, it can be dodged.

Elimination doesn’t stop with the identification of the first trigger. The majority of migraineurs have numerous triggers. If an elimination diet is going to help out someone, he or she needs to identify all the triggers.

For several migraineurs, the trigger is not a certain food, but a mix of foods. For example, avocados instigate migraineur A and B is okay with them. However, when B eats guacamole he picks up a headache every time. Why? Guacamole is included as one of scores of regular triggers including avocado, citrus juice, seasoning’s, and vinegar. B may be okay gobbling any one of these alone, but blend them and its sure prescription for a headache.

Botox: An Aesthetic Solution for Migraines

Botox can make you look better. Did you know it could also make you feel better? Also, we are not just alluding to self-esteem here. Migraineurs looking to eliminate some crinkles in their foreheads determined a lucky side effect of the beauty treatment-fewer migraines.

Botox, botulinum toxin type A, is a neurotoxin most recognized for its help in eliminating lines. The FDA first accepted it in 1989 as a treatment for eye muscle disorders, and the beauty use came afterward.

Botox is deemed to work by weakening or disabling the muscles by stopping or slowing the release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine (ACh). ACh send the signal from nerve to nerve to set off muscle contraction. When ACh production is inhibited, muscles loosen up, including those that bring about wrinkles.

Acetylcholine is also a neuromodulator. This means it affects how other neurotransmitters perform. ACh alternately fires up and sedates nerve endings, and it is this ability to curb excitability that may aid migraine patients. One supposition on migraine causes is based on the belief of a cascade of nerve tension in the brain that rouses the arteries in the brain. This in turn encourages nerve sensitivity, which further stirs the artery, in a fierce circle.

Botulinum toxin is the comparable agent made by stale food that causes botulism. When used medically, the toxin is introduced directly into the muscles and not leaked into the bloodstream. The dosage of toxin crucial to produce botulism is a lot larger than used in medical applications.

Like most prophylactic migraine prescriptions, Botox injections may take many weeks to become successful. Depending on the study, Botox has been proven successful at diminishing migraines for 60-90% of investigation participants. Injections ought to be given out at least three months apart and the outcome must last ten to thirteen weeks. Botox is not at present FDA permitted as a migraine medication.

It’s not your fault that you have migraine headache pain. Besides yourself, migraine headaches are an extremely common condition which will affect 12-28% of people at some point in their lives. Actually, would you like to know how big a problem this is? According to Wikipedia* the prevalence of migraine ranges from… * 6-15% in adult men and from 14-35% in adult women * Approximately 4-5% of children aged under 12 suffer from migraine, with little apparent difference between boys and girls. * There is a rapid growth in incidence amongst girls occurring after puberty, which continues throughout early adult life. * By early middle age, around 25% of women experience a migraine at least once a year, compared with fewer than 10% of men. As you can see… the fact you are experiencing Migraine Headaches isn’t unusual. The reasons for migraine headaches though aren’t as varied as you might suspect… in fact as you’ll learn, there is often one primary reason you experience migraine headaches. If we can tackle that one reason, then frequently (but not always) it means the end to your migraine headache attacks. That’s what this report will teach you… let’s begin!

A randomized controlled trial of chiropractic spinal manipulative therapy for migraine. Objective: To assess the efficacy of chiropractic spinal manipulative therapy (Chiropractic Adjustment) in the treatment of migraine. Design: A randomized controlled trial of 6 months’ duration. The trial consisted of 3 stages: 2 months of data collection (before treatment), 2 months of treatment, and a further 2 months of data collection (after treatment). Comparison of outcomes to the initial baseline factors was made at the end of the 6 months for both an SMT group and a control group. Setting: Chiropractic Research Center of Macquarie University. Participants: One hundred twenty-seven volunteers between the ages of 10 and 70 years were recruited through media advertising. The diagnosis of migraine was made on the basis of the International Headache Society standard, with a minimum of at least one migraine per month. Treatment they Received Two months of chiropractic care determined by the practitioner (maximum of 16 treatments). Results: Participants completed standard headache diaries during the entire trial noting the frequency, intensity (visual analogue score), duration, disability, associated symptoms, and use of medication for each migraine episode. The average response of the treatment group (n = 83) showed statistically significant improvement in migraine frequency (P <.005), duration (P <.01), disability (P <.05), and medication use (P <.001) when compared with the control group (n = 40). Four persons failed to complete the trial because of a variety of causes, including change in residence, a motor vehicle accident, and increased migraine frequency. Expressed in other terms, 22% of participants reported more than a 90% reduction of migraines asa consequence of the 2 months of SMT. Approximately 50% more participants reported significant improvement in the morbidity of each episode. Conclusion: The results of this study support previous results showing that some people report significant improvement in migraines after chiropractic care. A high percentage (over 80%) of participants reported stress as a major factor for their migraines. It appears probable that chiropractic care has an effect on the physical conditions related to stress and that in these people the effects of the migraine are reduced.

The bottom line is, if your experiencing Migraine Headaches do a google search for the name of your town and the word chiropractor. This will hook you up with a local Chiropractor. They will evaluate your spine to see if Chiropractic id right for you…. You’ll be glad you did.

An ophthalmic migraine is a condition which has a disruption in the eye sight of one eye and not both eyes. There can also be a concurrent or subsequent migraine headache. The condition could also be known to as retinal migraine as well as ocular migraine. There is certainly usually not any of the pain, nausea, or aura that is associated with a migraine headache. The vision is deemed to be infected by a spasm in a circulation system that is located behind the eye. An ophthalmic migraine is a general hypothesis regarding the triggers and effects.

Ophthalmic Migraine Will cause Vision Effect

The peripheral vision may be affected by hindrances that resemble zigzag or even wavelike lines. There should be a concern for any basic safety risks with the damaged vision. The symptoms have been noted to typically last for less than fifteen minutes. Rest in a dark bedroom may help to alleviate the situation in case the situation continues. From time to time the irritating symptoms may keep on for nearly an hour. The dark should help to prevent any probable triggers coming from flashing as well as bright lights.

What exactly Will cause Migraines?

Food ingredients, flashing lights, anxiety, and sodium may have an achievable impact. The vasospasm which is believed to be an attributing element could possibly be influenced through high blood pressure. An irregular bottleneck in the blood vessel could potentially cause the vascular spasm to continue. Weather, barometrical pressure, strong perfumes, strobe lights, sleep disorders, as well as caffeine may result in an episode. Environmental or chemical substance factors could possibly be controlled to avoid problems.

Cure For Ophthalmic Migraine

A ophthalmic migraine may occur only once. There could also be a regular pattern of the eyesight troubles. A medical diagnosis may very well be helped by documenting every situation. The signs ought to be examined simply by a medical doctor to discover in the event the problem is significant and needs treatment. The elimination of pressure along with any possible triggers through the diet may help to regulate the hazards. The symptoms generally subside independently within just a limited time period.

How to Stay clear of Ophthalmic Migraine

The theory in regards to the condition covers the possibility of a spasm which in turn may be brought on by some stimulus. Persons that avoid flashing lights and anxiety may lower their risks. A healthy diet with plenty of relaxation may help to keep away from an episode. Coffee as well as sodium may also increase blood pressure even while increasing the probabilities for an ophthalmic migraine. The symptoms could go on for several hours along with might result in permanent harm. An ophthalmic migraine is uncommon, could be critical, and must be diagnosed by a health practitioner.

Question by ♫StormChaserGirl♫: Did I experience symptoms of a migraine headache?
Well, since it is Saturday and there’s no school, I was sleeping in like I always do on weekends. I woke up at about the same time I usually get up for school with a pounding headache. When I was laying down the headache felt like it was on the top of my head or kind of in the center of my face by my eyes. I was too dizzy to close my eyes and try to rest so I got up and walked around, thinking it would help. Then the headache went to the back of my head, feeling even worse than what it did before. Bending over and even going upstairs to the bathroom made me so dizzy to the point that I threw up a few times. I took 3 Advil 200mg Liquid gels and they helped after about an hour and a half. I finally got my sleep because I was so tired! Every time I closed my eyes my headache felt a bit worse and that made me dizzy. After I threw up, I felt relieved. Now my headache is gone and I am beyond glad!

I appreciate any answers I can get. Thanks!

Best answer:

Answer by PooPooLaTrash
Migraine symptoms vary from person to person as far as where the pain is concentrated and the symptoms can vary as well, but generally a migraine will make a sufferer extremely sensitive to light and sound and the pain is usually (but not always) on one side of the head. Nausea and vomiting along with dizziness typically accompany a migraine.

From the sounds of things, you may have had a migraine, but if you get another headache like this, you should see your doctor.

Article by Victoria Norton

It can be a fair guess that every person has suffered the distress of a headache. If it comes to pain, the prevalent, ordinary headache won’t even begin to compare to migraine headaches. I know the extreme pain of migaines because I used to put up with, terribly, from them during a young age. I am so thankful they stopped because they were exceptionally painful. There’s much to be discovered about migraines because they are not fully understood by researchers. Everything is clouded and mystified by the simple fact that people do not go through headaches, and pain, all the very same way. But that’s only one small element of a large and elaborate picture.

As you can imagine, there is actually a great deal of knowledge accumulated over the years. You can see migraines referenced as a variety of vascular headache, and that simply means it is in connection with the system of veins along with vessels in our body. Seemingly either very low as well as high temperatures may cause a migraine episode. Then there might be other causes such as inadequate amounts of various physical needs related to eating and sleeping. All this implies that there are external factors for migraines in some people. We talked about several areas, previously, but there are others including chronic stress.

The extraordinarily high amount of pain from these headaches can take some time before being fully experienced, and that has captured the attention of research. Of course that can guide them to investigate certain areas which could be fruitful. It seems that the present situation is that medical researchers have a lot of data that they can try to work with. Over 50 % of people who get migraines seem to have close relatives who also have this trouble which implies a possible genetic influence. That tends to point to other potential causes such as environmental influences that produce the same effect.

Women can be sensitive to migraines due to hormone imbalances. The regular menstrual cycle can frequently cause a migraine either prior to or following the cycle. It is acknowledged that estrogen diminishes quite a bit during those periods of time. Then again, other significant hormonal shifts happen throughout pregnancy and menopause. A proportion of women will probably have a higher frequency of migraine problems during these periods. The intensity of a migraine can be worsened for some if they have replacement therapy for hormones. Alternatively, all of those experiences do not materialize to all women who are afflicted by migraines.

There are many other factors involved that may bring about a migraine including sensory stimulation such as loud sounds, certain odors, bright lights and an assortment of smells including perfumes and other different odors. So there is no obvious single cause that may be pinpointed with this problem. Still there are physical causes with some people such as intensive physical exertion of pretty much any kind. All of that tends to make unraveling the secret of migraines a lot more difficult.

Headaches can be terribly painful, and it is something most of us have had the misfortune to endure. If it comes to painfulness, the prevalent, ordinary headache doesn’t even begin to compare to migraine headaches. In fact, I used to have migraines when I was very young but they stopped. I am so thankful they stopped given that they were exceptionally painful. Headaches generally speaking, including migraines, have not been solved by medical professionals since they do not have a complete grasp on their reasons. There are hundreds of factors, if not more, and one very puzzling aspect is the people have varied pain feelings. But there is far more to this story which is complicated and has many parts to it.

As you can imagine, there is actually a great deal of understanding amassed over the years. You can see migraines referenced as a variety of vascular headache, and that basically means it is related to the system of veins and vessels in our body. Seemingly either very low or high temperatures may induce a migraine event. Then there could be other reasons such as deficiency of amounts of various physical needs related to eating and sleeping. All this suggests that there are external factors for migraines in certain people. Stress is a component with many other men and women, and perhaps especially if it is prolonged stress.

The unusually high amount of pain from these headaches usually takes some time before being thoroughly experienced, and that has caught the attention of research. That indicates certain implications to doctors but nothing especially definitive. Every bit of material can give some kind of clue. Over fifty percent of people who get migraines seem to have family members who also have this condition which indicates a possible genetic influence. Having said that, genetics is not involved with everybody, and so that is one more facet that has to be looked at.

Shifts in the amounts of hormones can cause these headaches in certain women. The usual menstrual cycle can frequently cause a migraine either preceeding or following the cycle. In these situations, doctors are mindful of variations in estrogen levels. Then again, other major hormonal shifts take place in the course of pregnancy and menopause. As perhaps thought, some women state greater inclinations to suffer migraines in the course of these periods, as well. The severity of a migraine can be made worse for some if they undergo replacement therapy for hormones. On the other hand, all of those experiences do not appear to all women who are afflicted by migraines.

There’s a wide variety of migraine inducers like music that is too loud, or exceedingly bright lights, and even common odors from chemicals and other regular smells. It is distinct that the assortment of migraine triggers is highly varied. Still there are physical reasons with some people including rigorous physical exertion of almost any kind. All of that makes unraveling the enigma of migraines much more difficult.

Question by True dat: What’s a good age to allow a child to take medication on their own.?
Example, an inhaler for asthma. And for example if your child has a headache while in school and you know you have provided your child the exact mat dosage for them to keep in their pants pocket in case he needs it while at school, instead of running to the school nurse and waiting for his turn to see the s hool nurse also the nurse would have to ask a zillion questions, call me, etc. My child has migraine headaches and the doc said to take motrin asap or it won’t work, so if my child run to the nurse that would probably take 20 minutes therefore the motrin won’t work for him. He s 10 years old.
