Her story: Joy C., a homemaker, has had sick headaches since she was 15. Her headaches gradually increased in frequency and severity. The pain could be on one or both sides of her head, throbbing in quality, starting in her occipital area and extending across her whole head, forehead, behind her eyes, through her cheeks and into her teeth. Once per week, the head pain climbed to an extremely high intensity and was accompanied by light and sound sensitivity, nausea and vomiting. She frequently had a visual aura preceding her headaches. When first seen at the Headache Institute of Texas, in San Antonio, she was having daily headaches, averaging a 6 on a 0-10 scale and a 10 pain level once per week (with associated migraine symptoms, as described). In addition to daily headaches (despite being on topamax), she was had daily neck, upper back, and shoulder blade pain. She also had daily ear pain, ear ringing, and jaw pain. She was dizzy twice per week.

Article by Adam Bardetta

Headaches can be terribly painful, and it is something many of us have had the misfortune to withstand. But naturally there are headaches, and then there are migraine headaches that happen to be different. I went through a period when considerably younger, and I used to have migraines about once a month. I don’t have them, but I can tell you they are enormously painful experiences. Headaches generally speaking, including migraines, haven’t been solved by physicians since they do not have a complete grasp on their reasons. There can be hundreds of factors, if not more, and one very perplexing aspect is the people have diverse pain feelings. But there is much more to this story which is complicated and has many components to it.

However, just like with numerous topics in medical science, a lot is known about migraine headaches. For starters, migraines are sometimes termed, vascular headaches, which means the vascular system of blood veins as well as arteries. People have been known to get a migraine when subjected to excessive temperatures in either direction. Then there could be other causes such as deficiency of amounts of various physical needs connected with eating and sleeping. Exactly like with so many other medical conditions, there are certain triggers that seem to influence this condition. Another reason for a migraine can be excessive and chronic amounts of stress.

Pertaining to the overwhelming pain, migraines are different because the pain appears to take longer to build up. However, that is just an additional clue related to migraines, but each and every piece of the puzzle helps. It seems that the present-day situation is that doctors have a lot of data from which they can try to work with. Some migraine sufferers appear to possess a genetic predisposition since you can find migraines in the family tree. However, genetics is not involved with everybody, and so that is one more facet that has to be taken into account.

For women, there can be a relationship with hormone variations and migraines. The normal menstrual cycle may cause a migraine either leading up to or following the cycle. Estrogen does not continue being stable at these times for women. Then again, other important hormonal shifts occur in the course of pregnancy and menopause. A number of women will likely have a greater frequency of migraine attacks during these periods. There is an recognized practice called hormone replacement therapy which can produce more extreme migraines which is hard to imagine. Alternatively, all of those experiences do not materialize to all women who are afflicted by migraines.

There are many other aspects involved that may trigger a migraine among them sensory stimulation such as loud noises, specific odors, bright lights and an array of smells including perfumes and other different odors. Doctors are not able to ascertain the exact process that leads to someone experiencing a migraine. Some individuals can get them from physical activities that are likely to be greater than what that person typically gets. So there is certainly still a long way to go before this condition is understood and effectively treated.

The following are the more common Signs symptoms of TMJ or TMJ Symptoms: Jaw pain: That can be pain typically in the mandible (lower jaw) and just in front of the ear (The temporomandibular joint area). People can also have jaw pain in the upper jaw (the maxilla). But that pain can sometimes be mistaken as sinus issues and vice versa. You’ll need to see your Dentist to rule out any Tumors and cysts which do occur occasionally, and to check for infection in the Jaw bone which are usually related with teeth. Clicking and/or popping: The more common clicking or popping is the meniscus or disc in the Temporomandibular Joint when it stays forward and inside of it’s regular place in the TMJ Capsule or Joint. When this happens, it is a common irregularity in the function of the joint or TMJ. Typically when someone has a slipping, clicking, or a popping disc, it is Irreversible, and will always slip out, pop, click and dislocate for the rest of your life. It is a rare case that we can cure, or recapture the disc from displacing or popping like that. Sometimes people come in to me for a TMJ exam and report TMJ Symptoms that there is a popping in the joint when it is a natural or normal popping when the individual opens their mouth wide. So, if you have a “Bump” or a popping when you …

Chances are outstanding that you have had at least one headache in your lifetime. But naturally there are headaches, and then there are migraine headaches that happen to be different. In fact, I used to get migraines when I was quite young but they ended. They lasted a couple of years and then eventually stopped, and I am delighted for that. There is much to be discovered about migraines because they aren’t fully understood by researchers. There are many reasons for this not the least of which is many people can respond to and feel pain in different ways. This really is a tremendously involved area, and it appears doctors have a long way to search before a clear picture comes out.

Migraine headaches are a general area in which a large amount of data has been constructed. You can hear migraines referenced as a type of vascular headache, and that simply means it is in connection with the system of veins along with vessels in our body. People have been known to get a migraine when subjected to excessive temperatures in either direction. Deprivation of sleep or becoming particularly hungry can bring one of these painful headaches to the forefront. Exactly like with so many other medical conditions, there are certain triggers that seem to influence this condition. We pointed out several areas, by now, but there are others for example chronic stress.

Regarding the intense pain, migraines are unique because the pain appears to take much longer to build up. However, that is just another clue about migraines, but every last piece of the puzzle helps. Every bit of knowledge can offer some kind of clue. Some migraine sufferers appear to possess a genetic component since you can find migraines in the family tree. But since not every person is in that category, then that leads doctors to examine ourside causes.

Swings in the levels of hormones can bring on these headaches in many women. In fact, prevalence of migraines have been reported during the times just prior to or after the menstrual cycle takes place. Estrogen does not continue being stable at these times for women. Then again, other major hormonal shifts take place in the course of pregnancy and menopause. As perhaps thought, some women state greater tendencies to go through migraines throughout these periods, as well. It could be important to note that the technique generally known as HRT, hormonal replacement therapy, can make migraines more painful than they already are. An additional feature that really doesn’t help with comprehending is that is not seen in every woman who gets migraine headaches.

There are many other aspects involved that may bring about a migraine such as sensory stimulation such as loud noises, particular odors, bright lights and an assortment of smells including perfumes and other diverse odors. So there is no clear single cause that might be pinpointed with this affliction. Still there are physical factors with some people for example intensive physical exertion of just about any kind. The precise reasons for these headaches is a challenging condition for researchers to understand.

Article by Niall Roche

If someone has ever mentioned having a migraine and you responded with a comment about it just being a headache, then you’ve been fortunate enough to never have suffered from a migraine – otherwise you’d never make that comment in the first place. A migraine does more than cause a bit of pain in your temples or that spot over the bridge of your nose where you get a sinus headache. This nervous system disease saps your strength, causes nausea and even makes the sufferer unable to see properly.

If you’re thinking that migraines aren’t very common, these statistics may surprise you: * In developed areas, migraines are as much as 300 to 500 percent more common than in third world and Asian countries.* More than 500,000,000 (five hundred million) people have migraines every year.

Since millions of people worldwide suffer from migraines each year, this disease is actually fairly serious. A migraine is not just a little headache – they cause people to lose work time, miss out on family events and generally enjoy life less than people who don’t get them.

So what exactly are migraine headaches and where do they come from?

There are actually two types of migraines. If you’ve been suffering from migraines and have a common migraine, it hits without warning. If you have a classic migraine, you do get some warning that it is coming, but the warning isn’t a nice one and is almost as bad as the headache itself. Anywhere from ten to thirty minutes before the actual headache hits, people who suffer from classic migraines will have something called an aura. Auras can include many symptoms, but visual difficulties, such as flashing lights, zig-zag lines and temporary loss of vision, are the most common warning signs. Other aura symptoms are difficulty with speech, feeling confused, tingling in the face or hands and weakness in arms or legs.

Migraine sufferers don’t always feel pain on both sides of their heads. This is because these headaches are unilateral, or on one side. Most people develop a headache around one eye or one side of their jaw and neck. As the migraine persists, it will envelope the rest of that side of the head. During a bad migraine, noise or light can worsen the pain and the sufferer may vomit from the pain they experience.

Another term for a migraine is vascular headache. This means that the headache happens because the blood vessels around and inside your skull change their shape and size. This is what actually causes the migraine pain and what makes it so difficult to treat at times.

Children rarely suffer from migraines. Teen boys develop migraines earlier than girls who will eventually suffer from this disease. However, in later years, women will be more likely to develop migraines than men. The good news is that, for many people, episodes of this nervous system disease eventually becomes less intense and less frequent. The bad news is that migraines can last for quite some time. There have been cases where these headaches lasted for as long as two weeks, although a range of a few hours to two days is more common. Some people have migraines several times a week, while others only have two or three episodes a year.

Finally, although more than one person has feared that the terrible pain of a migraine is because of a brain tumor, migraines are not caused by an underlying disease. They are very painful and dehabilitating while they are happening, but they aren’t fatal at all.

There are ways to deal with, cope and even treat your migraine headache and you can find more information, from a fellow, migraine sufferer by following the resource section at the bottom of this article.

Is it possible for children to suffer from migraines and headaches? I was genuinely unconvinced about this. But after reading a number of online articles, I’m sad to say, but it is possible. In fact, migraines are frequently experienced by children all over the world. Most children who suffer from this condition begins to have migraine headache attacks before the age of 20. There are also reported instances of headaches happening to children as young as five years old.

When a child is brought in a pediatrician’s office for check up, the child’s medical doctor will carefully assess the child’s over all condition to rule out any crucial medical conditions.Of course, pediatricians should come up with an accurate diagnosis for the cause of the symptoms such as unsettled stomach, gripes and queasiness.

As of these days, there is no definite cause for migraine headaches in children. Some doctors believe that the condition is caused by deficiency of serotonin, an important brain chemical. Aside from those previously mentioned, other factors that can trigger this type of migraines are are the food intake and activities of the child. One thing for sure, the cause of migraine headaches symptoms can vary from person to person.

Aside from the observable signs and symptoms mentioned above, one may also notice that during a migraine attack, a child may experience unexpected headache in the eye region, forehead and temples. On the other hand, children who suffer from migraine headaches may also have temporary visual changes or migraine auras. Suspect the child having migraine headaches if he or she is trying to avoid bright lights, deafening noises, or powerful odors. These things can aggravate headaches. More often than not, the head pain is relieved by uninterrupted sleep. You may notice that your preschooler would usually look ill with accompanied abdominal pain, queasiness, and a strong need to sleep. Look for signs of pain like irritability, weeping, and wanting to sleep in a dark room.

Are you aware that emotional or physical stress, fever and certain food types can increase the incidence of migraine headache attacks? Yes this is again true. When it comes to choosing the most effective treatment plan, it is best to understand and find what causes the attack, immediate pain and symptoms relief and preventive management strategies.

Most definitely, it is a must for parents to take their children to see a doctor once they suspect their child having severe headaches and migraines. Once the doctor has finished with the assessment and tests, they will provide the most accurate diagnosis for the child’s condition. In general, migraine headaches in children are not life threatening. However, the doctor is the best person to assure you that no serious underlying medical condition is present. If there is, an effective treatment management plan is provided.

Article by Peter Morgan

Physicians have been using Botox for many years in the treatment of wrinkles and various other ailments. Actually, this medication is derived from a type of bacteria called Clostridium botulinum. In large amounts, this toxin can cause botulism. Researchers have discovered that when it is diluted sufficiently, it can be safely injected into various muscles and cause a controlled weakening of those particular muscles. This is instrumental in reducing wrinkles and can be used for various other medical purposes. One of the most recent discoveries with regards to Botox is that it can actually ease migraines in some people.

Chronic headaches affect a surprisingly large amount of the population. Not only can constant headaches affect your ability to focus on work and other activities that you are doing, it can also negatively affect relationships and various aspects of emotional and psychological health. Migraines that are particularly severe can cause vision loss, nausea, and have other severe side effects. They can be short in duration or they can last for several hours or even days. Migraines can be caused by several different things. Some of the most common triggers for these severe headaches are tension, stress, bright lights, skipping meals, allergic reactions, hormone fluctuations, and various others. Unfortunately, these triggers are only a few of the reasons that people have migraines. In many cases migraines seem to occur without regard to triggers or other factors. Although there are very few preventative measures that can be taken with these headaches, Botox is one thing that has been extensively tested and found to make a significant difference for people who experience chronic migraines.

When you understand how this substance works, it is easy to understand why it would ease migraines. As previously stated, it can be effectively diluted and injected directly into muscles. Of course, this should be done by a licensed professional in order to ensure that it is being used in the correct quantities and injected into the right place. When Botox weakens the muscles, they become less strained, which can prevent the onset of migraine headaches.

It is extremely important that Botox always be administered by a professional who is experienced and knowledgeable. In the treatment of these chronic headaches, several injections are administered in specific locations around the head and neck. Although the treatment may vary somewhat depending on the patient, it generally lasts approximately three months, greatly alleviating the debilitating headaches during that time. If you believe you may be a candidate for this innovative treatment, talk to a physician who can give you an accurate diagnosis and recommend you for it as soon as possible.

Article by Zach Doherty – Clivir Team

It is heartbreaking to know that children can also have migraine and headaches. As a matter of fact, various online resources state that approximately 10 percent of children across the globe are suffering by this medical condition.Children as young as five years old can have migraine headaches.

But what causes migraine headaches in children? What causes migraine or headaches in adults applies to children as well. Genetics, certain food and drugs, ailments, emotional and physical stress and geological aspects are some of the contributing factors that can cause migraines in either adults and children. Furthermore, infection and an unforeseen skull trauma or trauma can also cause migraines and headaches in children.

How can you tell if your child is experiencing migraine headaches? What are the signs and symptoms? Comparable to the average migraines in adults, children can also experience mild to severe discomfort or pain in the eye area, temples and forehead. The severity of pain can vary as well. It is imperative to look for signs of pain like irritability, uncontrollable crying, facial grimacing and frowning. On the other hand, there are children who experience severe abdominal pain instead of headache. Stomach pain can be accompanied with light and sound sensitivity. Remember that deafening noise, blinding lights and strong scents and odors can heighten the pain. For children who are suffering from migraine headaches symptoms, it is best that they stay in a dim lighted room. Deep and uninterrupted sleep can alleviate the pain.

Aside from sleep, migraine headaches in children can generally be treated and managed with over-the-counter pain medications and home headache cures. Preventive measures can also be done to manage migraine headaches.

Previously, we tackled that food and diet can also cause the incidence of migraines. Foods that can aggravate the migraines symptoms are processed and canned foods, soy and beans, chocolate and preservatives. Moreover, parents should be careful in giving over the counter medicines. The kidneys and liver can be damaged with high dosage of drugs. If you are unsure what to give your child, give your health care provider a call. By this, you are sure that what you are giving your child is accurate for his or her age. Besides taking over the counter pills and drugs, parents and significant others can teach their children the importance of a health and regular diet, in addition to a regular sleep time.Exercise can also prevent migraine attacks for some children. However, too much exercise and physical movement can exacerbate the condition.

Certainly, paying special consideration to your child’s headache symptoms is essential. Be sure to consult your health care provider if the migraine headaches exacerbate or occur repeatedly in order to rule out tumor or abnormal growth. In order to tell if the migraine headache is caused by brain tumors, check your child’s dexterity, balance, language, vision and walking.

They are hand held battery medical devices developed in Russia to treat pain and injury. The Russian space agency was instrumental in extensive training as they were keen to find a simple effective way to treat pain and injury in space. These units never made it into space as there where moisture issues, but instead the electrodes were incorporated into the fingers of the cosmonauts gloves to reduce stress during takeoff and landing.

Almost everyone has occasional headaches, especially when they are sick, tired or otherwise under stress. Headache is the result of pain signals caused by interactions between the brain, blood vessels, and surrounding nerves. During a headache, the pain comes not from the brain. It comes from specific nerves surrounding the skull, head muscles, and blood vessels that are activated and send pain signals, interpreted by the brain as a headache.

Some people experience this kind of headache periodically. It requires more than some simple over the counter pain relief. It needs something with a bit more power. The problem is this kind of headache tends to be so strong that it seems that only a couple of hours after taking the pain relief the pain is trying to reassert itself.

Tension and allergy related headaches. When you feel pressure in your sinus areas or if you feel pressure around the top part of your head this is what you are experiencing. They are usually a dull bothersome ache that feels like a weight hanging from that area. They also tend to slow your reactions and make you lethargic. They can last from a few hours to a few days. Allergy headaches are usually associated with sneezing, stuffy nose, and can drain from one side to the other.

For a person who is prompt to tension headache, the moment the person gets tense about something, the person will develop a tension headache. People with tension headaches may also suffer from pain, throbbing or a sensation of tightness in the head. Contrary to popular belief, tension headache is not necessarily the result of emotional stress, but rather, like migraine, probably as a result of a neurochemical process inherent in the brain of the headache sufferer.

Some of the cardinal signs include droopy eyelid, redness of one eye, tearing, stuffy or runny nose, blushing or facial redness, sweating, and swelling. Most patients suffer a few of these autonomic symptoms, very few suffer all of what has been identified as symptoms, very little number of people do not complain about any of these, and much lesser number of people report another symptom he or she have noticed after a few occurrence.

The simple water remedy works just like re hydrating any dried food. Imagine soaking a bowl full of sultans in water. After awhile they plump up. Your cells are just the same, many people have cells that look more like sultanas than grapes.

Migraine prevention is the best way to anticipate and prevent migraines from happening so always make an effort to recognize the warning signals and use the tactics above to stop and eliminate all of your migraine headaches.

Remove all suspected foods. e.g. dairy, wheat, strong cheese, chocolate, eggs and strawberries. Nitrates, Nitrites and MSG call cause headaches in susceptible individuals.

Plus supect chemicals e.g. gasolene, perfume, and kitchen and laundry cleaners. Shampoos and some toiletries can also cause headaches.

Other alternative forms of treatment include natural treatment, acupuncture, yoga and meditation, magnesium supplements and certain herbal supplements. Aromatherapy is very useful in relieving the pain. Time tested treatments with essential oils like peppermint oil, eucalyptus oil, cinnamon have headache removal properties.

Acupuncture: A Help to Relieve Migraines

Acupuncture is one of the oldest medical techniques in the world, performed in China for over 2,000 years. It is an FDA-approved curative modality for a number of diseases, especially pain management and recurring pain, and is particularly effectual in migraine relief.

Acupuncture is a Traditional Chinese Medicine remedy that involves firing up some of the over 800 vital energy points in the human body with delicate, hair-thin needles to release chi and boost the body to heal itself. The central energy points are on the meridians that run through the body from head to toe.

Chi (pronounced chee), or life energy, navigates through these meridians and energy points. The of the flow of chi leads to sickness and is considered the cause of many bodily aches and pains. The flow of chi along the meridians can be blocked by illness, unbalanced diet, the weather, and other outside factors.

Most acupuncture practitioners work with patients to form a treatment plan that addresses both the blockages themselves and the things that cause them. These medication plans, like those of Western Medicine, often take into account diet and routine adjustments to promote the patients’ well-being.

Migraineurs (people who suffer from migraine headaches) need to mention to their acupuncturist exactly where they are troubled when seeing one for pain supervision. The place of pain is significant due to the immense number of acupuncture points in the head, face, and neck. Where to apply pressure depends on where the migraine pain is most acute.

Migraineurs can find continuing liberation from their migraines by working with an acupuncturist who focuses in headaches. These specialists do an modified analysis of the patient to create a long-term treatment plan. Many people who experience an acupuncture program like this experience relief from migraines for years afterwards. For some the headaches disappear completely.

Article by Mirjan

Migraine surgery is employed for migraine headache relief when medicinal therapy is not helpful for the task. It reduces or stops migraines. Each day sophisticated procedures are being introduced for reducing migraine pains. Almost 10% of world’s population faces migraine per year. This forms a loss of countless working days and thereby of billions of dollars. Although migraine seems just like a simple headache, it generates significant weakness and destruction of quality of life which is comparable to any chronic illness. Advancement is taking place each day in the medicines to cure migraines; however indications take place till they start showing effect. Moreover in spite of a rigid medicinal schedule the quality of life of individual is declined. So surgical method is applied. Several developments have been found out in particular for cauterization of the upper stratum of scalp’s blood vessels and surgical removal of trigger zones. Albeit there is at present no substantiation to support removal of trigger zones, lots of doctors do that surgical procedure.

Who is the Candidate for Migraine Surgery

Whether a migraine patient will be cured by the migraine surgery or not is found out from many ways. One amongst them is certain blood vessels in the skull that are causes of migraines. They are squashed during a migraine outbreak. If the compression relieves the soreness and if the hurt reappears when the pressure is removed, it indicates that arterial surgery is required. Similarly some particular sufferers apply pressure using a tight strip around the head. If they achieve momentary aid with it, surgery can be a solution. So also some particular medications reduce migraine headaches by squashing the arteries in the head. Here also arterial surgery can reduce migraine.

Function of Trigger Area Remova[

Elimination of trigger sites contains the amputation of groups of muscles the sensory nerves of which are inflamed by the adjoining muscle or certain contact areas. A array of occurrences starts with this inflammation of nerves which produces soreness of the coatings which surround the brain named as meningeal layers which occurs as migraine headache. Up to now, the patients of migraines have recognized 4 trigger points. Lots of studies have been done to decide if the surgical amputation of trigger sites benefits or not and it has been discovered that amongst ninety percent of the people, minimum 50 percent improvement is shown.

Migraine Surgery is Not A Starting Treatment

Migraine surgery is not conducted as a starting therapy. It is applied only when the usual medicinal treatment is not successful.

Botox in Migraine

Insertion of botulinum neurotoxin A which is popularly known as Botox has been observed to offer considerable help in migraine headaches. The efficiency of Botox was decided in 2008 by the members of the American Academy of Neurology subcommittee when they were evaluating the Botox efficacy in many problems amongst which one was migraine as well. But the Botox introduction was identified to be ineffective in episodic migraines. The assessment also cleared that the Botox was ineffective in lessening headaches due to turbinates and septum.

Hope for Migraine Patients

Thereby it is evident that though migraine headaches appear to be out of control with drugs there are some or the other cure to it and the migraine sufferers will surely get relief from migraine headaches.

Question by lalalala.: Headache/Migraine question.?
Since i like hit puberty ive suffered from headaches really bad. Ive been to the doctors once they put it down to dehydration and stress as i was never good at school i couldnt concentrate.

Ive had my eyes tested and im fine. but that was like a year ago or 2.
Recently im having headaches that last for about 4 days, but have like 6 hour break.

I now have like really faint hearing loss, though ive been ill for a few weeks now i have the flu.
My mum works in a hispital and recons i have a head cold.

I smoke on and off, and im on the pill, a pill im not suppose to really be on.

I know i had a crap diet, a really rubbish sleeping pattern where i only sleep for about 2 hours or ill sleep for 15 hours the next day.
Im in healthy weight. justgetting worried about my headaches, i know i probably do need to change my whole lifestyle.

im asking do you recon it could be anything serious.
Ive head a headache like 3 years ago where i went blurry, threw up and had to sit in the dark
Now im sittin in the dark for ages and ages, i feel sick and i cant hear propley.

Best answer:

Answer by Yahzmin (US)
Migraines often happen to females when there are hormonal issues. Birth control pills contain hormones, so taking them – will make you get MORE migraines if you are prone to them. You may need to get OFF the pill and on to a different form of birth control. It is a tough choice, but really, the pain is just not worth it.

Regular sleeping and eating patterns are essential if you want to avoid migraines. As is being hydrated. Drink, drink water, drink a lot of it. Eat every few hours. Go to bed and get up at the same, reasonable, time every single day, including weekends. Not fun? Of course not. But think of the pain!

Check out your diet. Many foods – and MANY additives – contribute to migraines. MSG, artificial sweeteners, high fructose corn syrup, sulfites, nitrates, phosphates are just a few of the chemicals that cause problems — and show up everywhere in foods these days. Include many ‘natural’ foods, like aged cheeses, oranges, pickles, vinegar, red wine, etc., and you can see there is quite a list growing. Now, add fragrances (perfumes, hair spray, deodorant, shampoos), smoke (yours or 2nd hand), exhaust fumes, etc., and your list of ‘suspects’ grows a LOT.

Once you start eliminating things from the list, if you STILL get migraines all the time – go see a doctor and get tested. They have excellent pills that stop migraines in their tracks these days. As well as things that might help stop them from ever starting. Although doing that WITHOUT medication is a much better idea.

Article by Daniel G Davis

As if the daily sadness, sleepless nights, feelings of helplessness and hopelessness that accompany a depressed mood where not enough by themselves, many with clinical depression also have to endure tension-type headaches or migraines headaches on top of the other depressive symptoms they experience.

Headaches and depression, especially migraines do nothing but deepen a depressed mood and evidence has even suggested that depression is linked to the onset of migraines. A migraine results in throbbing head pain which can be intensely painful and can last from 4-72 hours in duration.

In addition to the head pain there is also often nausea, vomiting, sensitivity to light and sound and for many aura symptoms such as flashing lights and other visual impairments may occur. Whilst some people will have infrequent headaches others may experience headaches up to 15 days per month.

If a migraine headache is the result of depression then a health care provider should first diagnose depression and treat depression which in turn will reduce the frequency of migraine headaches. The most common treatment for depression is antidepressant medication with selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) the most commonly prescribed for those experiencing a depressed mood and have been shown to be effective in preventing migraine headaches.

Tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs) are another type of medication that has also been prescribed to those experiencing chronic migraines even though they may not be suffering from a depressed mood.

Antidepressant pills do however come with some unpleasant side effects that some patients find difficult to endure and antidepressant medication can take a number of weeks to take effect. Side effects from antidepressant medication may include dry mouth, blurred vision, constipation, diarrhoea, weight gain, decreased libido, and nervousness but these side effects will vary between the antidepressant prescribed and between individuals prescribed these antidepressants with some people having few if any adverse effects to the prescribed medication and others many.

Finally, if you are prescribed antidepressant medication to treat either depression, a headache disorder or both then it is important to inform your doctor about any additional medication you may be taking including supplements and vitamins to avoid any potential negative side effects that may result from combining medication.

If you are weary about taking antidepressants for either a migraine or depression then don’t be afraid to ask your doctor about the natural remedies that may be effective in treating either or both disorders. With a correct diagnosis and appropriate treatment in addition to patience it is possible to rid your life of both depression and headaches.

Answer by Burhan Oni
Migraine relief can be obtained from the juice of ripe grapes and is an effective home remedy. Grind fresh ripe grapes and drink without adding any water.

Cabbage leaf compress can help relieve the pain of a migraine headache. Crush a few cabbage leaves, place in a cloth and apply on the forehead for extended period of time. Use fresh leaves when the compressed leaves dry out.

Lemon crusts can cure migraine. Grind lemon crust and apply as a paste on the forehead. Migraine cures using this remedy has been found very effective and long lasting by many.
